There will be new rules for disposable plastic cups in the EU.

You will no longer be allowed to give them to customers free of charge for pickup and delivery. You must also offer a reusable cup as an alternative.

• From July 1, 2023: You may not give disposable plastic cups to customers when they pick up or have them delivered. You have to pay extra for them. And you must offer a reusable cup or container. Or the customer will bring one themselves.
• Starting Jan. 1, 2024: When your customers eat and drink at your location, you may not use single-use plastic cups.

What products do these rules apply to?

• Cups: The rules apply to all plastic cups intended to be used only once. They also include cups that are only partially made of plastic. For example, cardboard coffee cups coated with plastic.
• As of July 1, 2023, you may no longer give single-use plastic cups to your customer for free. You must also offer a reusable alternative to your customer. Such as a cup you brought yourself.
• As of Jan. 1, 2024, you may no longer offer single-use plastic cups where customers use them directly. For example, in the cafeteria, in the office, in your restaurant or snack bar or at a festival. Reusable cups will become standard.
