About Pickwick

The history of Pickwick dates back to 1753, when Egbert Douwes and his wife Akke Thijsses opened the grocery store De Witte Os in Joure. Tea was sold there from the very beginning. The tea was later sold under the name Douwe Egberts.

The name Pickwick was introduced on April 2, 1937. The name was suggested by the wife of the then-director of Douwe Egberts, who was a fan of Charles Dickens’ books. The inspiration came from The Pickwick Papers.

Pickwick is now part of JDE Peet’s. The tea is still blended and packaged in Joure.
